I had fun drawing Leonard. Sometimes drawing ugly characters is much more interesting than drawing pretty ones. Which is why pageants and beauty contests scare me: everyone looks the same. The black women look like white women. The asian women look like white women. The white women all look like each other; brunettes look like blondes, blondes look like black haired women. It’s like they’re all clones, and I find it freaky. Besides, how do you tell them apart? I can’t, and I’m an artist.

This week’s vote incentive: a concept sketch of Leonard. this one was done while waiting for a meeting to start, so there’s another random doodle there as well.

This weekend I made progress on my Bethany Cosplay outfit. The mock-up for the white shirt is all completely done, and I learned all about gussets. It’s amazing how much a small square of cloth changes the entire shape and fit of an outfit. I also discovered on my twitter feed that BioWare wondered if they should provide patterns for cosplayers. As someone who is just learning how to sew, I doubt many of their artists know how to construct real garments. I have a feeling they do as I do; draw something that looks cool and don’t really understand how everything works mechanically. Which is perfectly fine, until you want to actually create the outfit.
