I’ve seen some new commenters in the comments section. Welcome new people! I don’t always reply to comments right away, but I do read and respond as quickly as I can. Since this week has been awfully stormy, I want to remind people to follow me on any one of my social media sites. Last week there were two tornado warnings in my area and hurricanes and tropical storms have been known to take my power out for as long as a week, which can affect site updates. If you follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr, you’ll get site updates which are handy when I have no power and can’t update the comic. I hope that I keep power this summer, but it’s already been a nasty June and hurricane season is just starting, so I don’t want to take chances. I post more personal stuff on Twitter and Google+, and you’ll also see a lot of fanart on Tumblr as well as some LaSalle’s Legacy art. That might help you figure out how you want to follow me.

I hope everyone had a good father’s day celebration, if you celebrate. We live near my dad, so we took him to Blob’s Park’s Bavarian beer garden where every year around Solstice they celebrate Sonnendwendfeier (or Solstice is how I think it’s translated). You get to eat German food, drink beer, listen to Bavarian music, watch a Bavarian performance, and jump over a fire (see here for some photos from the site). The fire is supposed to help bring good luck to you in the coming year, and me and my husband have always jumped over it when we started going. The Bavarian performers also have interesting dance routines, including one with explosives in it. Dancing and explosives; what could be better?

Now that TV is in Summer Rerun mode, my DVR is feeling kind of empty. While it’s nice to not have to scramble to watch shows lest I get spoiled, it does feel odd to have my DVR at 1% capacity (I still record weekly yoga programs). As for reruns, I’ve been watching the latest incarnation of “Looney Tunes” on Cartoon Network. I was skeptical of it at first, but after seeing one episode, I’m hooked. It has the same spirit of the older Warner Brothers cartoons, even though it has some continuity in terms of the world and characters.

I spent this weekend away from all electronics at a sewing retreat. I’ve only been sewing seriously for about three years now, ever since I wanted to make my Yuna cosplay outfit, and I’m actually impressed at the amount of skill I’ve acquired. I still have a long way to go, and the seam ripper is one of my bestest best friends, but I can now make a decent kimono and hakama as well as basic dresses with very little help. This weekend I made a pair of hakama for my husband, a kimono for myself, and sewed some trim on my Viking apron dress. And ate more cookies, candies, and baked goods than I probably should have, but weekdays are for dieting, right? XD

I saw Star Trek: Into Darkness for my birthday a couple of weeks back. I have to say, I’m one of the few people who didn’t really enjoy it all that much. I’ve been trying to figure out why, and I think part of it is that I did not enjoy paying to see a movie I’ve already seen. The first bit was pretty good, but the last bit, particularly the ending, felt like the writers ran out of ideas and just redid Star Trek 2, but with a twist! And that didn’t impress me at all. Plus, I wasn’t too happy with the action scenes; they felt long, and that last fight had me getting bored, particularly since the two combatants kept recycling the same moves.

Good things about the movie were the acting (particularly Benedict Cumberbach who did a brilliant job, though I still like Ricardo Montalbán better), and Uhura’s broader role in the series. I wish Sulu and Checkov had more things to do as well, but hopefully in the next movie.

Wow I feel old and crotchety.

I’m back from vacation! I had a great time, especially since I went white water rafting for the first time. My husband and I did a tour in West Virginia on the New River. Since there had been a lot of storms in the area for the past few days the water level was really high, making the rapids pretty turbulent. Going over them was scary and exciting at the same time; I remember nearly getting tossed out of the raft a couple of times on the bigger rapids, and trying desperately to remember where I needed to swim to if I did get tossed out. Luckily, I stayed in the raft. We were with a big group of people, so there were about 8 people on the raft plus a guide. Our guide was pretty informative as well as entertaining; we were regaled with stories of the mining towns that have since disappeared along the edges of the river, and how criminals used to hide out in the area. It was also the first time I’ve been camping on a trip in a long time. I remember backpacking across Ireland with a friend of mine; we’d pull off the side of the road into a campsite, put up a tent, and there was our bed for that night. While I enjoy camping, I can only do it for a little while. After that, I miss indoor plumbing.

I’m actually posting this from the past, so I’m assuming I had a restful vacation and a good Balticon. I hope you guys had a good Memorial Day weekend too! I love the beach, but since it’s super crowded on Memorial Day weekend, I always wait until June or July to head out. Last time I was at the beach, I was stung by a jellyfish. Those hurt like the dickens, and it was only a tiny one!
