I’m back from my vacation! Camping makes you appreciate the little things in life, like indoor plumbing and electricity. Though I didn’t miss the Internets while gone, I did miss flush toilets and being able to wash my hands. Hand sanitizer is good for occasional use only. I also experienced a lot of stormy weather while camping, which made me appreciate the sturdiness of a house. Being in a tent that has aluminum poles where the wind is blowing 30 miles an hour and the lightning is flashing is a pretty nerve-wracking place to be. But I got through it okay, as you can see. 🙂
As you may remember Crystal Workers aren’t considered real women. Magic users are pretty eccentric so they can get away with not following traditional gender roles, as you’ve seen with Henry. Oh, and Miguel’s pal is Pedro.
Vote incentive for today is a sneak peek at Thursday’s page.
My tent has those flexible, fiberglass, bungee-corded poles, and I didn’t worry about its overall stability in the wind … my problem was that in the fiercest of the rains a fine mist came right through the fabric. 🙁 I used my sleeping bag to cover my instruments and protect them from the wet more often than I used it to keep me warm.
What struck me about the War was … there I was in an environment primitive enough that I had to go outside and walk sixty yards to go pee, the sky was dark enough to see the Milky Way, there was tribal drumming behind me … and when I poked my head into a neighbouring camp’s common area I caught a friend watching a live video stream from NASA ground control on his laptop, and it included shots of monitors there showing the latest images from Mars. Had to walk sixty yards to pee, but at fifty eight yards I could see fresh photos from the surface of another planet. As I said at the time (and then found out several other people had had the exact same thought), “I love living in the past. And the future. At the same time.”
