This is an actual pirate tactic. The pirate ship would feign injury, and once a hapless merchant ship approached to help, they would strike. By then, the merchant ship couldn’t escape and would be forced to deal with the pirates. I’m guessing that actual pirates would probably have waited for another victim, but Teague’s target is the Laughing Panda so he’s going on the offensive.
